BETA2 0910 Release Notes (09 October 2018)

New Features

  1. Storage performance from a single VM has been enhanced to more than 1M IOPs across 2 virtual drives for the beta2. The initial changes for the fast path implementation are in place
  2. New widgets in the dashboard page showing brief information (total and status) for networks, datastores, instances and clusters.
  3. The user is able to manually migrate an existing instance to a different NexVisor. For this iteration, the storage latency optimization property of the instance is not taken into account.
  4. Ability to use the UI without a license in the case of manual NexVisor controller migration.
  5. Implemented basic integrated NVMe datapath for thickly provisioned VDisks.
  6. New UI user, administrator.

Improvements

  1. Manual failover of the Sunlight controller is supported in this beta2 release. A manual reinstall of the master node onto a slave node will result in autodiscovery of the previous state of the database, thus allowing the new master node to function upon restoring to a specific point in time.
  2. Manual instance migration is supported in this beta2 release.
  3. Autoassigning NexVisors id based on the primary NIC MAC.
  4. Autogenereting different mac address for each NexVisor controller.
  5. Installation images are limited to 2, master & slave. The slave image can be used for as many slave nodes as required.
  6. Improve API and UIs version view.
  7. Improved API total resource end point.
  8. Improved re-synchronisation progress for AoE repair.
  9. Improved ixgbe integrated driver build by default.
  10. Improved API and UI network edit. Ability to edit physical network details.
  11. Improved performance mode by removing the boot requirement in NV performance mode.

In Development - targetted for an upcoming release

  1. Backup and restore of VM data to a remote storage target.
  2. Automated failover of the Sunlight controller service in the event of failure.
  3. Disaster recovery procedure.
  4. NexVisor automatic failover.
  5. NexVisor discovery mode and auto addition to a cluster
  6. Vdisk management.
  7. Manual placement and motion of VMs between different NexVisor nodes from the UI
  8. Remote access to the CLI via an ssh connection to the controller.
  9. Windows guest support.
  10. Graphical mode console support
  11. Multi-user support with Role Based Access Control
  12. Striping of volumes across multiple physical NVMe drives to enable larger volume capacity and for enhancing single drive performance to 1 Million IOPs and above.
  13. Increased NIC speed support to 25/50/100gbit support. Supported Hardware revisions are planned in 2019 to accommodate faster NIC speeds. Sunlight will be releasing a custom 100gbit/s acceleration card that will significantly enhance virtualised NIC performance.
  14. Online Upgrade Support.
  15. Remake of the complete build system.

Known Issues

  1. When power cycling the Sunlight cluster, even with a Fault tolerance policy configured, automatic VM start-up is not currently supported when the cluster comes online. The Fault tolerance policy is only currently executed when the controller node stays online.
  2. Failover of network traffic between physical ethernet ports is not currently supported in this beta release. All 10 GBit ethernet ports must be connected for proper product behaviour.
  3. Access to the CLI is disabled in the beta2. Only dashboard access from a web browser is supported.
  4. Multi-user and RBAC support is not supported in the beta2.
  5. Changing the password for the default administrator user is not supported in the beta2. Manual procedures are in place.
  6. During the beta2 program all upgrades will require the controller and slave nodes to be powered down. Upgrade/install is achieved via the boot configuration option.
  7. We have noticed an issue during the repair phase of a datastore with replicas. We are aware of the issue and we suggest for this beta version to avoid replica sets on datastores.
